C++ Engineer - London - 9 Month Contract - Broadcast and Streaming Media Technologies department of leading global games studio.
This is a 9-month contract with potential for extension for an experienced C++ Engineer / C++ Developer. Based in Central London, my client's the "R&D Group" report into the global R&D division based in Tokyo and provides a range of services that support the development of games on PlayStation products (PSOne, PS2, PSP, and PS3.) for both their own internal studios and its third party partners throughout Europe and Australasia.
Job Description The role involves the implementation of a C++ application on the PS3. You will be part of a small team composed of other software and Flash engineers based in Europe. The deliverable is an application delivering contents to end-user using the application through a Flash user interface. You will be involved in interfacing with the core software components of the application listed below:
* Database storage on the PS3 using a well known database engine, * Communication and transport of data used by the application and delivered by a back-end service provider, * User interface of the application.
Responsibilities * Creation of a database schema fitting the application requirements * Using the database storage to store and retrieve information used by the application * Interfacing with the core software components (server communication, accessing the media content used by the end-user), the user interface developed in Flash * Working closely with the Flash developer team and the core software components developed by other software developers * Keeping implementation on target to meet a tight schedule
Skills/Experience The following skills are required for the role:
* Good knowledge of C / C++ with at least 3 years experience * Good knowledge in database programming and SQL * Good knowledge in any software configuration management systems, ideally Perforce * Ability to work to strict deadlines without direct supervision
The following skills are not required for the role, but would be seen as highly advantageous:
* PS3 and PSP programming * Programming game consoles or other real-time/embedded platforms * Good communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with differing groups both inside and outside of the company
